Oh my fucking god it’s fuckfaces like this who make part-white mixed people NOT have it ~~sooo much easier~~ than monoracial POC. In the US I face racism for being Japanese, while in Japan I face racism for being mixed. Everybody hates you for their own reason. Mixed people may not face the same kind of racism that monoracial POC do but we DO face our own unique kind of racism and we don’t ~have it better~ at all
Yes I have, several, and the fact that you sound so rude about this is pretty irritating
Anonymous asked: but the cultural norm of the world is more american than it would be say french or dutch for instance, no? not being rude here hopefully doesn't come across that way
and where did white Americans come from beginning not ~500 years ago? France and Holland, among other western countries
all I know is… the US may have invented McDonald’s but burgers and fries were invented by the Germans and Belgians
It’s all the same as far as I’m concerned

So, this happened today.
As far as my research on this shows, only fetuses with penises do this and it’s not really masturbation, as there’s no evidence that the fetus even achieves an erection, let alone achieves orgasm. It’s more likely simply a tactile reflex, same with the face touching and thumb sucking that fetuses have been known to exhibit.
This congressman’s argument is actually that the sexual pleasure of fetuses who he considers male is more important than the bodily autonomy of pregnant individuals, who are often very female
This would be surprising… if it were the first time male pleasure was prioritized over women’s rights.
His argument is that if they can feel pleasure (doubtful), they can feel pain (still nope), not that their sexual pleasure is more important.
He’s equating a fetus being able to feel pleasure with a fetus being able to feel pain, and saying that a fetus feeling pain is more important than a pregnant individual’s bodily autonomy
By the transitive property, he’s saying that a fetus’ (sexual!) pleasure is more important than a pregnant person’s bodily autonomy!!!!

Anonymous asked: "a group of white people from different countries does not count as sufficient diversity" could you please explain this? why is this true for white people but not for asians? or is it true for asians too?
white/western culture is the norm the world over. if you have a bunch of white people from different countries in the same room that’s not diversity because they represent the status quo everywhere.
if you have a bunch of Asian people in the same room they would at least represent cultures that are a wide departure from world’s norm. if they were all from the same country then yeah they wouldn’t be the ~dictionary definition~ of diversity but that’s not what we’re talking about
this is a public service announcement for white people:
- there are not “different kinds” of white people
- a group of white people from different countries does not count as sufficient diversity
- people who are not from a western country can and often do learn to speak English, often fluently and without a discernible accent so stop fucking asking us why we speak English
- sorry if we don’t really believe that you have a distant Cherokee relative
I used to like the term Hapa just as a descriptor of part-Asian mixed people (I don’t think I really used it that much to describe myself) but my problems with the term are 1) nobody outside the mixed community has heard of the term in my experience and so it was just one more thing to explain to them and 2) there’s been a lot of discussion recently about how the non-Hawaiian mixed Asian community has appropriated the term “hapa” and how a community shouldn’t be built on appropriating terminology we don’t own. Personally that’s why I’ve stopped using the term as much but on the other hand it’s upsetting to feel like a community I was glad to learn about and be a part of has to sort of disband at least in name because the name we’ve chosen for ourselves is appropriative and therefore not inclusive! It’s tough.
I stopped describing myself as “half Japanese and half American” because “American” isn’t very descriptive
I stopped describing myself as “half Japanese and half white” because then ignorant people wanted to know “what kind of white” I was
I stopped describing myself as half anything because I’m not made up of fractions
and then I stopped describing myself at all because people like to start shit when they know the first thing about my background and I don’t want to deal with that
now I am fine though with being bisexual and pointedly refer to myself as being “half gay” occasionally, the same way I am forced to describe myself as being “half Japanese” sometimes, mostly to show how ridiculous the idea of being “half” anything is when it comes to identity
